The Preview Panel
The right panel shows a live 5×5 preview of the currently selected style, updating instantly as you change any property.
The display checkboxes
Below the preview, checkboxes let you toggle Header row, Total row, First column, Last column, Banded rows, and Banded columns on and off, to see how the style looks with different combinations turned on.
These checkboxes are display-only. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel don't store "which of these are on" as part of the style itself - that choice lives per table, in the document, not per style. So nothing you set here is saved; they only exist to help you preview your style under different conditions. See General limitations for more on why.
How borders are resolved
Where two scopes meet - for example, the boundary between the header row and the body below it - the preview resolves any conflict the same way PowerPoint, Word and Excel do:
- A more specific scope's own border (e.g. Header Row's own Bottom) wins over Whole Table's Inside Horizontal/Inside Vertical, but only if that scope actually defines its own border there
- a cleared scope correctly falls back to Whole Table instead.
- If two adjacent cells would otherwise show conflicting borders, the app picks a winner using the same priority order real PowerPoint, Word and Excel use: Double beats every other style, then Solid beats Dashed, then Dashed beats Dotted, with thicker lines winning over thinner ones of the same style.
This means the preview shows one clean line at every boundary, the same way it would render inside Word, PowerPoint or Excel - not two overlapping, possibly-mismatched lines.
Text and thick borders
Text in the preview always keeps clear of the border, even at the maximum 6 pt border width - cell padding and border thickness never overlap the text, matching how PowerPoint itself renders it.
