KeySlides — Template check

A polished presentation starts with a solid template

KeySlides is only as good as the template it runs on. In practice we regularly see templates that look great but cause frustration in use. The check of one template is free and, in most cases, done within a day.

Sound familiar?

  • Users resorting to dragging and pasting because there aren't enough layouts
  • Text that looks slightly different than intended
  • Even a nearly empty presentation resulting in a huge file
  • A brand color that's just slightly off because the theme isn't set up correctly
  • Tables that don't look the way the brand guidelines require by default

These aren't user problems — they're template problems.

What I assess

During a template check, I look at things such as:

  • Are there enough layouts so users don't have to drag and paste?
  • Are theme colors and fonts set up correctly in the Office theme?
  • Is the dark or light background of each layout set up correctly?
  • Does the template work with a POTX file, or a PPTX as an example presentation?
  • Is content on the master or on the layouts — and is that choice correct?
  • Are text styles consistent, with the correct line spacing and white space?
  • Is there heavy content in the template that makes every presentation unnecessarily large?
  • Is there an underlying grid that layouts and elements are aligned to?
  • Are there empty placeholders or hidden objects that could cause problems?
  • Which fonts appear in the template — and which pose a risk when presenting on another computer?
  • Are table styles defined that match the brand guidelines?

What you get

After the check you'll receive an overview of the key findings — what's working well and what could be better.

The check of one template is free. Have multiple templates, or want me to fix the issues found as well? Then I'll put together a no-obligation proposal.
