KeySlides — Features

The key features at a glance

This page has a detailed explanation of the most important KeySlides features. Use the links below to jump straight to a topic.

01

Templates

KeySlides gives you, as the first button on the ribbon, a menu with all the templates available to you — for screen or print, or for a specific purpose such as a proposal. Your administrator makes sure everyone only sees relevant templates.

Do you currently have example slides in your template that you have to delete with every new presentation? With KeySlides you move those to separate example-slide files. That keeps templates smaller and saves users the extra clean-up work.

Example slides

Instead of empty wireframes, KeySlides shows concrete examples of what a slide will look like. You choose whether to insert the example content or create an empty slide based on the layout of the example.

Your administrator links example-slide files to a template — so you always see only relevant slides. If the slides are organized into sections, KeySlides shows the sections as tabs in the window. By default all slides are selected, so you insert them with one click — including a section in your presentation, handy for a table of contents.

Do you have a product or service with multiple sections of slides available? Then you can insert that entire sub-presentation at once. Because all content is managed centrally, you always insert the current version — without accidentally carrying over another client's name.

03

Photos

Select a placeholder on your slide and open the photo library. Your administrator fills it with stock photos, company photos, illustrations, or screenshots — neatly organized into categories, linked to the right templates. You only ever see what's relevant.

Pick a photo with different proportions than the placeholder? Then KeySlides automatically opens a crop tool. You intuitively zoom in or out and move the photo, until the preview shows exactly the right part. The photo lands in exactly the right place.

Can't find what you're looking for? Search by (part of) the file name, or import a photo that's not in the library.

04

Icons

Icons clarify your message — next to a bullet point, as a standalone visual element on a slide, or as a replacement for an image. KeySlides ships with more than 2,000 Font Awesome Free icons. Want more choice? Purchase a license for the Pro version with more than 6,000 icons, use another standard set of your choice, or link your own custom set.

Icons are inserted in one of your presentation's theme colors, so they always fit your branding. To quickly find what you're looking for, browse by category or search by part of the file name.

Variables

KeySlides supports two types of variables. Personal variables — such as your name and contact details — are set once and are available in all templates. Template variables are specific to a presentation, such as a client name or project title.

Fill in the value once, and it's automatically applied to every slide and text block where the variable appears. That keeps data consistent and error-free.

06

Text blocks

Frequently used text — standard wording, disclaimers, product descriptions — you save as a text block and insert with one click wherever you need it in your presentation. Like slides, text blocks support variables, so personal data or client information is filled in automatically here too. Text blocks are managed centrally, so everyone always uses the most current version.

07

Text styles

A good template has multiple text styles defined. But Tab / Shift+Tab isn't intuitive, and the list-level buttons are awkward. KeySlides replaces this with clear buttons and labels that match your template — such as Subheading, Body, and Bullet list. You apply them to one paragraph or a selection, with a single click.

08

Spelling

PowerPoint's language settings for spelling and grammar are cumbersome. KeySlides makes it simple: your administrator determines which languages are available — including language variants such as British or American English. You choose the language and specify what to apply it to: the whole presentation, the current slide, or just the selection. Notes pages are included automatically.

09

Management

All content — templates, example slides, photos, icons, and text blocks — is managed centrally in your own SharePoint environment or on a network drive. When using SharePoint, updates are distributed automatically to all users via the OneDrive sync client. That way KeySlides also works offline, and everyone always sees the most current version.

As the KeySlides administrator, you set which buttons are visible, which languages are available, which folders are offered per template, and how slides are tagged for selection.

Getting started

You don't need everything at once. Start with your existing templates as a base and move the example content to separate example-slide files. Create one example slide for each layout in your template, so users immediately see a good example of what's possible. Temporarily disable features you don't have yet — such as the photo library. Turn them on once you're ready.

Because updates are distributed automatically, you can improve gradually. New content is available to all users immediately.
